UK Biochar Research Centre
Charchive Standard Biochars

The UKBRC Standard Biochar is a set of ten biochar produced from five feedstock (rice husk, oilseed rape straw pellets, wheat straw pellets, miscanthus pellets, and softwood pellets) using the Stage III pilot-scale pyrolysis unit at 550°C and 700°C. Due to the high level of control over the production process, and its extensive monitoring, we achieved a high degree of reproducibility of the biochar products used in the Standard Biochar set, and this makes the material ideally suited for research purposes.

All the Standard Biochar, together with specification sheets detailing its properties, are freely available to researchers wanting to incorporate this biochar into their research. Where larger quantities of biochar are required, we also offer customised production of biochar.

For enquiries about UKBRC Standard Biochar please email us at biochar@ed.ac.uk.
