DAC and other GGR technologies (Phase 2) - Biochar Platform

A business-to-business (B2B) platform creating the first fully integrated biochar system, enabling the sustainable scale up of biochar as a Greenhouse Gas Removal (GGR) technology.

Underpinning a pilot project, is the connection of GGR suppliers and users through an online platform to buy, sell and verify the impacts of their GGR solution.

The project is led by Black Bull Biochar Ltd., a company created from the Phase 1 project undertaken in 2021/22, Alex Clarke as CEO. Hamish Creber (former UKBRC PhD student and Researcher in Phase 1) is Chief Technical Officer, Dr Saran Sohi is a Non-Executive Director.

The 2030 objective of the project is to transform the GGR, delivering annual carbon removal of 50,000 t. The University of Edinburgh (UKBRC) is the lead academic partner in the pilot project, providing the modelling of biochar carbon removal. Other project Pioneers include Arla, SRUC and UKCEH.
